Nothing New Around These Parts...

Well, I'm now a couple days into my leave and I'm beginning to think that Baby Bav has forgotten what his/her job is... you know, to be born! I have no feelings at all that labour is pending (although my back is a bit more sore these days - but that could just be from sitting around all day).

Since I left work last week, my Janice-Day and Karine-Day have both come and gone. Let me explain... a friend of mine at work (Dan) has a wife (Janice) who was about three or so weeks ahead of me in her pregnancy. Every once in a while, Dan would tell me about things that Janice was going through (like swollen feet, sore back, etc) and sure enough a couple of weeks later, I would go through the same thing. So naturally, when Janice went into labour and had their son (Evan) a week early (July 21st), I assumed I would follow in her swollen foot steps and have Baby Bav a week early. But alas, no such luck. Janice-Day was this past Saturday and here I am, still pregnant.

My Karine-Day is along those same lines. Karine's husband and Marvin played soccer together (until they both got hurt recently - Jose fractured his right fibia (?) and of course we all know about Marvin and his knee). Karine was about six weeks ahead of me in her pregnancy and had her baby (David) on what was supposed to be her last day at work (June 30th), which was five days earlier than her due date. So I actually had two Karine-Days... both have come and gone. My last day of work was last Friday (no Baby Bav) and five days before my due date was yesterday (no Baby Bav). This is why I'm thinking that Baby Bav has forgotten what he/she needs to do. Maybe posting this blog will help remind him/her...

So now I'm just waiting for the next milestone to come, which is actually today. You may remember that one of the earlier ultrasounds predicted that August 15th was the due date, but then it moved back to August 19th. So maybe something will happen today. Although I doubt it because I don't feel anything brewing. After today, I'll be holding out for this Saturday - the actual due date; then after that for August 23rd - my mom's birthday; and then after that I have nothing. :( I sure hope we have Baby Bav before August 28th because we have good friends coming in from Bermuda that leave that day and we'd like to introduce Baby Bav to them (partly because they're nice people, but also partly because they have a son - aka potential husband if Baby Bav is a girl - and she's pregnant with a daughter - aka a potential wife if Baby Bav is a boy). The dating market is tough these days... I hear you have start early, and who doesn't want at least a friend who lives in Bermuda?!? :)

At one of the earlier doctor appointments, the doctor mentioned that they usually don't let moms go too far over a week from their due date, so maybe we'll have Baby Bav the last week of August?!? Given Baby Bav is half my family and half Marvin's family (and let's be honest, here neither family is known for its punctuality), I think Baby Bav will hold out as long as possible and force me to be induced. We'll see!

So for now, I'm just puttering around the house, running a couple of last minute errands, squeezing in a massage or two (tomorrow... ahhhh), and tidying up the house a bit (but not nearly enough to be considered the "nesting" instinct - too bad, because the house sure could use a thorough cleaning). Maybe if I can completely relax all of my muscles, Baby Bav will just slip out while I'm watching Oprah one day! Here's hoping! :)
