So Much For Full Moons...
Well, I'm still here... I guess the full moon thing wasn't in the cards for Baby Bav yesterday. Although as one cheerful worker here pointed out, there's another full moon in about four weeks. Sorry, but I think I'll end up pulling Baby Bav out myself before I wait another four weeks for the next full moon! Maybe chocolate can lure out a baby...
This morning we went to our 38-week check up at the doctor's office. Since last Tuesday (so just over a week ago), I've lost three pounds (which I attribute at least a part of to not having had breakfast before weighing in) so the total weight gain is back to about 27 pounds. My blood pressure was good (128/68), pee was normal (I'm sure that's more information than you care to hear about, but I just want to make sure you have the complete picture...), the belly was measuring 40 cms (slightly ahead of the 38/39 that I should be at) and Baby Bav was relatively relaxed with a heart rate of 129-ish.
When the doctor measured my belly, he said something along the lines of "Oh... well that's a bit big - looks like you have a big baby in there". I was just about to snap with the "bit big" comment, when he saved himself by saying it was baby, not mommy! :) I asked him what he meant by "big" and he said he figures Baby Bav will be a bit bigger than average (which is around 7.5 pounds) and come in around 8.5 pounds. To some this may sound big, but that seems normal to me. All three of my sister's kids were around 9 or 10 pounds, so an 8.5 pounder doesn't sound that bad to me. Hopefully it's not 5.5 pounds of head and 3 pounds of body! That would not impress me at this point! :)
The doctor also confirmed that the baby is still head down (proper position) and that it's completely normal for the baby to stick to one side of the belly over another. I had commented to him that I often find Baby Bav hanging out on the right side of my belly (sometimes almost on the side of my body if you can imagine - like he/she's trying to hide behind me). The doctor said that it's common for babies to move more towards the right side of the mom, maybe because there's more room there. A bit of a relief to know that he thinks my lop-sided belly is normal.
My next appointment is scheduled for next Thursday (just two days before my due date), but I'm really hoping not to make that one. We'll see!
