We Have Flippage!

Yes folks, you read it correctly - we have flippage! Baby Bav has gone from this:

To this:
And just in case you're wondering, no those aren't pictures of my belly - just some pregnant lady from the internet. But wouldn't it be nice if it was as easy as drawing a baby in the right position on my belly to show Baby Bav where he/she should be? :)

Marvin and I arrived at the hospital around 6:30pm and were pretty much the only ones there (we've since decided that we'd like to have Baby Bav on a Friday seeing as it seems to be a slower night...). I changed into a hospital gown, hopped into a bed, and the nurse hooked me up to a fetal monitor for about 15 minutes or so - just to set a base line. The monitor kept track of Baby Bav's heart beat and any contractions that I was having (of which I apparently had a handful, but didn't really feel anything).

Then the doctor came in, turned on the ultrasound and again confirmed that Baby Bav was head up. Something new was that he/she was no longer frank-breech (folded in half) but was now complete-breech (legs pulled in to the chest with the arms wrapped around them - the "normal" fetal position). She then placed her hands at the top and bottom of my belly to grab the head and the bum, and slowly started to turn Baby Bav downwards. In total, I would guess that it took about a minute and a half to complete the turn and the pressure wasn't nearly as bad as I had anticipated. It was uncomfortable, but again not really anything too bad.

Once the doctor was finished, she kept her hand pushing against Baby Bav's head to make sure that he/she didn't flip back into the breech position right away. The doctor then checked that the head was in fact down and told us to hang around for about an hour to continue monitoring Baby Bav's heart beat and make sure he/she wasn't distressed. There were a few low heart beats (lowest was around 87 or so - usually between 120 and 160 is normal), but after repositioning myself it elevated back up.

So for now, that's it... Baby Bav is head down and we'll just have to monitor his/her position during our weekly doctor visits. If all goes well and Baby Bav stays put then we will likely have a "normal" labour and delivery. If Baby Bav decides to flip back (which the doctor suspects would happen in the next day or so if it will happen) then we'll have to schedule a c-section. We have our 37-week visit this coming Wednesday, so we'll see how Baby Bav does until then!
