This Just In... Milk Strike in Etobicoke!
Reliable sources have confirmed that, unbeknownst to many, a serious milk strike has been taking place in Etobicoke over the past week. Witnesses say that Maja Colleen has refused to drink milk (aka formula) throughout the day and even before bedtime for almost a week now. Maja's desperate first time parents say they are concerned about the long-term effects of the strike on their precious daughter. "I hope she [Maja] won't get osteoporosis when she's older" and "what if she [Maja] withers away to nothing?" were just some of the concerns Maja's parents had, as overheard by this blog's undercover reporter who has been inconspicuously posing as "Fluff 'n Stuff" the dust-bunny situated along the floorboards in the Etobicoke home for the past four months. Maja's parents have apparently tried "everything under the sun" to negotiate with the hostile infant... cold milk in her favourite sippy cup, warm milk in her favourite sippy cup, milk from a real cup, milk in her bottle, milk spilt on the floor beside Cheerios... nothing has worked. We will continue to update you with any new information on this newsworthy story as we learn more...

So I think Maja may have said her first word the other day. We have a couple of board books that have pictures of animals in them that Maja loves to flip through. The other day when I was reading one to her, we turned to the page that had a picture of a dog on it and Maja said "hwoof" - almost like a sigh. I didn't think much of it until we read another book that also had a dog in it and Maja "hwoof"ed again. She has been pretty consistent with her "hwoof"ing over the past couple of days so I'm pretty convinced that she's saying dog, in her own special way. :)
This long weekend Maja has spent a lot of time swimming! I finally blew up her inflatable pool (complete with cool canopy to block out those pesky UVA & UVB rays) and set it up outside for her. She has also been to the local public pool a couple of times as well as our neighbour's pool (they went away for the weekend and told us we could use their pool anytime we wanted while they were gone - what great neighbours!). Maja really loves the water - it's so great to watch her kicking and grinning her way across the water (with Marvin holding her of course).
In addition to swimming, Maja has been taking "tours" around the backyard on her "Predator" (the bogeyboard Teta gave her) on a daily basis and every so diligently pointing to the multitude of weeds in the garden (thanks Maja). She has also spent some time hanging with Bakica. Yesterday Bakica stopped by for a visit... they played together, ate lunch together, played some more together, went swimming at the neighbour's place together and today Bakica is making Maja some of her yummy vegetable soup with chicken. Maja (and Mommy) can hardly wait!
When I asked her what would make her long weekend more fun, Maja said that she'd like to see Teta Linda and Grandma & Grandpa! Maja hasn't seen Teta since last Wednesday (we think) and she hasn't seen Grandma & Grandpa in almost a full two weeks. But Maja was comforted by the fact that everyone will be home after the long weekend is over and that she'll be able to see them shortly.
Anyhow, here are a few pictures from the past couple of days. Here Maja is looking over at Daddy and showing him how much she's enjoying her pool...
